The Collective was formed by BABS Barbershopper of the Year, Simon Lubkowski, at the start of the lockdown in the UK. His vision was to not only give people the chance to learn a song and record themselves, as many virtual choirs do, but to try and fill the social hole left by being unable to meet and rehearse. Their first song, ‘The White Cliffs Of Dover’, arranged by Simon, had 300 singers signed up to the project, and by the end of the their next song, an arrangement of the Barry Manilow song ‘One Voice’, they had almost 1500 people on the final recording. This has risen to over 3000 singers signed up, and more than 800 actively involved in the projects!

More important than the numbers however, is the community that has been formed within The Collective, with almost 1000  live Zoom rehearsals having been attended by people from over 30 countries all around the world. A Music Team of over 50, made up of BABS, LABBS, Sweet Adelines, BinG, Harmony Inc, and SABS members, not to mention non-Barbershoppers have run education sessions, sectionals, performance masterclasses, SOVT sessions and much more for the past 6 months, and all for free – an amazing labour of love from everyone involved!

More recently a Youth Chorus has been formed, featuring young people from 6-25 years old, who have not only worked on the main Chorus songs, but have learnt additional ‘youth only’ songs (again, arranged by Simon) to allow them to more fully express themselves!

All recordings have been produced by a Tech Team of over 40 people, all of whom are singers from within The Collective, who have edited, mixed and mastered hundreds upon hundreds of submissions, with the simple mantra that ‘no-one' is left behind...’and you are not alone...’

The Collective are thrilled to announce that not one, but TWO of their songs will be launched as part of BABS SingSeptember programme – The Collective Youth Chorus will be premiering their version of  Linkin Park’s song ‘One More Light’, an anthem of reflection and hope, and the main Chorus will be premiering their version of ‘You’ve Got A Friend In Me’ from Toy Story, along with full costumes and sign language (and almost 600 people too!).

There may even be some surprises too, so we hope you’ll tune in and join in the fun – starting at 8:00pm (UK time) on Saturday 12th September.
