Alan has been singing barbershop for most of his life, having been first introduced by his dad (in particular his dad's baritone teach tracks) at the age of three. Since then, Alan has enjoyed a number of successes in the world of barbershop, including a quartet championship and Hall of Fame induction with his quartet Monkey Magic and chorus championships with Cottontown Chorus and Hallmark of Harmony. He has previously served on the BABS Board of Trustees, including as Chair in 2021-2023.

As well as being a Judge in the Music Category, he really enjoys coaching quartets and choruses, and has served on the Faculty for BABS Harmony College and BHS Harmony University. He is also a bit of a barbershop history nerd!

Outside of barbershop, Alan holds a degree in Music Production, and is Head of Music at a secondary school in Birmingham. He lives in Shropshire with his wife Sarah, who is also a barbershop singer.
