BABS Live!, the live online concert series from the British Association of Barbershop Singers, will return at 8pm on Sunday 30th August. Hosted by James Gower-Smith and Chris Langworthy of Tagline, the show will be streamed live on the BABS Facebook and Youtube channels. We’ll be celebrating all things related to Harmony College, BABS’ annual education weekend and chatting to guest educators who have taught at Harmony College in recent years, including Sally McLean, Steve Scott and Vocal Spectrum, and Jordan Travis, who was originally scheduled to attend our August event this year. Once again, we’d love for you to get involved, and we have even more ways to do so this time around.

Performance videos

We'd like to feature as many barbershop groups as we can; either quartets or choruses of any gender combination. Whether it’s a rehearsal video, a song from one of your concerts or a song that you’ve learned and recorded during lockdown we’d love to include it. Here are some guidelines to follow when you’re thinking of which video you’re going to submit:

Max length: 3.5 mins
File format: h.264 .mp4
Resolution: minimum 720p
Audio: The group should be clearly audible, there should be no camera noise (eg. bumps and clicks) and no distortion.
Graphics: Please submit a clean video file ie. no graphics/logos/overlays
Orientation: Landscape
Aspect ratio: 16:9

Please complete a performer release form (found at the bottom of the page) and submit it with your video.

Once you’ve completed that, head to wetransfer.com, drag your video file and release form onto the browser window and choose the option to email it to [email protected]. If you aren’t sure if the video you want to submit fits within these specifications please drop us an email and we’ll do our best to help.

The deadline for submissions is 23:59 on Friday 31st July.

Virtual Choir

Following barbershop tradition, we’ll once again finish the show with a rendition of Let’s Get Together Again and Keep The Whole World Singing, and we want to make a virtual choir of barbershoppers to close out the show.

You can either record your submission as audio and video combined, or record your audio first and then mime for your video.

Even if you don’t want to sing, you can still get involved and film yourself swaying along to Keep The Whole World Singing, and if you can convince them bring any non-barbershopping family members in here!

Here is an introduction from Martin Baglow:

All learning materials can be found here, including the introduction from Martin Baglow, a director video from Dale Kynaston, teach tracks from Antoine Kaiserman and sheet music.
