Rod is a forty-three year member of BABS and a founder member of the West Midlands Barbershop Harmony Club.  Over the years he has been Music Director of the Anvil Chorus, Second City Sound, the Butcher’s Joint (Anvil and SCS) and the British Quartets Champion Chorus (BQC).

Rod has sung tenor in six quartets: Chime Gentlemen, the 1981 silver medallists, Back in Time, 1988/89 finalists, Curtain Call the 1990 Champion Quartet, Sound Assembly the 1994 Champion Quartet, Pitch Invasion the 2006 Champion Quartet and currently One Foot in the Stave the 2018 Senior Champions and 2020 International Silver Medallists.

Rod was a Judge for thirty-nine years and now enjoys Judge Emeritus status.

He enjoys coaching and has been privileged to coach in BABS, LABBS and in Holland. Rod is Barbershop's slowest-learners and has been to every BABS Harmony College. This has not deterred him from being involved again this year.

Other passions include the jazz guitar and listening to the Great American Songbook.  He lives in Birmingham with his long-suffering wife Chris and is well-retired but still claims to be only 28!
