Martin Proctor

Martin started his Professional musical career by enlisting in the Military Band of Her Majesty’s Scots Guards at the age of 19 as a percussionist/singer. Some 22 years later he retired as a Band Sergeant Major (2nd in Command) and he is now a freelance player and singer.

His father was a trained operatic Tenor, so singing has been an integral part of his life and his initial vocal coach sang with the BBC Singers and he liaises regularly with Vocal Coach/Conductor Matthew Waldren.

He started Barbershop Singing with Thames Valley Chorus, moving to the Great Western Chorus where he is now honoured to be their Lead Section Leader. He is also the Lead of “Bagatelle” Quartet, the BABS 2019 Senior Champions.

As a Candidate Singing Judge he has attended many sessions on Vocal Pedogogy from Rob Mance, Steve Scott, Jay Butterfield and Travis Jordan, having received personal voice coaching from Rob and Steve.

The area of the ageing of the voice, and its effect on vocal production/quality, is of particular interest to him as it affects ereyone whatever their ages!
