Mike has music in his blood with both his maternal grandparents being on the professional musical theatre stage. Mike met his wife in a mixed a Capella chorus – Faybianne is also a barbershopper with 40 years singing experience.

Whilst still at school Mike guest performed in operas with the Welsh National and English National Opera Company. Mike eventually was dragged into the amazing world of Barbershop in summer 1981 by friend Mike Taylor.

Mike has sung in choruses and quartets around the UK including Rainy City Chorus, Solent City Chorus, Granite City Chorus, Cambridge Chord Company, Channel 4, High Fidelity, The Works and iQ – achieving Gold and Silver medals on the way. He has directed both BABS and LABBS choruses (MD and founder with Faybianne of Aberdeen LABBS chorus Albacappella) and is a BABS Performance Judge. “Performance” grabbed his attention as music really comes to life when the song isn’t just “sung”.

Mike is currently Performance Category Director, a position he has held twice before and is a past chairman of the BABS Contest and Judging team. Mike has completed level 1 Estill Voice Craft singing training and enjoys being used for coaching and judging across Europe. In 2017 Mike judged every contest at the European Convention hosted by LABBS.
