Shanna Wells

BABS Chair | [email protected]

Shanna has been a barbershopper for 26 years. She officially joined BABS in 2009 and is proud to be in her 15th year as a member. Until 2022 she directed 5Ways Chorus and Three Spires Harmony as well as having sung in other choruses and quartets. Shanna joined the board in 2018 as Marketing Director and is concentrating fully on the ‘operational’ side of BABS but is very much looking forward to getting back to singing.

Shanna has over 20 years of marketing, events and business experience and, in her professional working life, she is the Operations Manager for The Care Workers’ Charity. She is also a singing teacher and coach, and has a husband, two boys and two dogs at home.

Shanna is a true advocate for the charity sector and is very passionate about music and the benefits it brings. She is delighted to be in the position where she can bring these two loves together in an organisation where making a difference is possible.

Calvin Laverick

Vice Chair (Co-Opted) | [email protected]

In Calvin’s time in BABS, he has been fortunate to receive support and funding to attend events such as Harmony College and the BHS International Convention in Orlando. A little over a year ago he felt it was time to give back and he supported the Board as the Board Secretary. Calvin is now continuing to stand for the position of Director of Membership and Engagement where he hopes to continue to give back to the organisation that helped him become the person he is today.

Calvin has an educational background in Organisational Governance (an MA in International Relations with a focus on critical governance theory) and experience working in local authority cross partnerships supporting the Director and Assistant Director of Adult Social Care in the City of York Council.

Rae Williams

Director of Finance | [email protected]

Rae took in this role in an Acting capacity around the time of the AGM in 2024, and has been performing that role since, helping to steer BABS to a sizeable surplus over that time.

Rae was formally elected to the Board at the AGM in March 2025.

Simon Lubkowski

Director of Music & Education | [email protected]

Simon is involved in a number of musical projects and directs a number of choirs and choruses in his local area.

He is passionate about musical development for others, and is keen to continue that work as Director of Music & Education.

Alistair Lamyman

Director of Administration | [email protected]

Alistair has been involved in British Barbershop since 2018, starting out as one of the founder members of Hull Barbershop Harmony Club, and since 2020 he has sung with Meantime Chorus.

Alistair has supported the BABS Board in a number of roles since 2019, before formally taking on the role of Director of Administration in 2023. Since that time, he has modernised a number of existing practices, including a large scale digitisation project of a lot of forms and collateral, as well as overseeing an overhaul of current policy.

You may have seen Alistair in one of his signature over-the-top jackets in his favourite spots - emceeing a babershop contest. It's his ambition to emcee every contest on offer, and having already had the honour of doing this at BABS, LABBS, IABS, BinG, HH, and BHS, he's well on his way!

Jaspa Stritt

Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging | [email protected]

Jaspa has been singing barbershop for around 6 years, initially starting their journey with The Great Western Chorus in 2019. Jaspa has also sung with The Bristol Mix and now currently sings with Deviate (Mixed Quartet) and Hallmark of Harmony. In addition to this, Jaspa is currently training to certify as a BABS Performance Judge.

Jaspa took over the role of DEIB team lead in 2024 after working on the DEIB team. As part of this work, Jaspa has overseen the initial introduction of new DEIB related projects (such as the DEIB resource bank and song check process). Jaspa’s priorities lie in making sure that barbershop harmony is made to be as accessible and inclusive to all of those who wish to partake in the UK - ensuring that education and information around DEIB topics is freely and easily accessible.

Dylan Gunasekera

Director of Membership and Engagement (Co-Opted) | [email protected]

Over the past 5 years, Dylan has well and truly become integrated in the
barbershop community, involved in several choruses and quartets. During this time
they have not only appreciated the singing, they have also realised the community
within BABS and the wider barbershop community. They are eager to further
integrate themselves in the barbershop community serving on the BABS board,
hoping to significantly contribute to the continued success of the British barbershop
scene and the continued maintenance of the community that is British barbershop.

During their time in barbershop, they have taken on several roles in MUBS, and now
in BABS-adjacent work hoping to develop the youth barbershop community. While
they remain committed to nurturing the youth barbershop scene, they are
enthusiastic about expanding their focus to engage the wider barbershop
community. In this role, they aim to identify ways to support choruses at a local
level, identifying key needs in retaining members and improving recruitment. They
aim to use both their experience in barbershop and their work to engage with the
execs of local choruses, and BABS general members to continue to strengthen the
barbershop community and hopefully support BABS as a whole in their continued
commitment to British barbershop.
